Volunteer Opportunities at Center Stage

Lighting Crew

Role Description: As part of the lighting crew, you will help design, set up, and operate the lighting for our productions. This role is crucial for setting the mood and bringing the director's vision to life.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the installation and focusing of lighting equipment.
  • Operating the lighting board during performances.
  • Collaborating with the director and other technical staff to create the desired effects.

Skills Needed:

  • Basic understanding of lighting equipment (training will be provided).
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work at heights and handle technical equipment.

Sound Crew

Role Description: The sound crew ensures that all audio aspects of the production run smoothly, from dialogue to sound effects to music. You’ll help create an immersive experience for the audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Setting up and testing microphones and speakers.
  • Managing audio levels during rehearsals and performances.
  • Collaborating with the director and other crew members to integrate sound effects and music seamlessly into the production.

Skills Needed:

  • Basic knowledge of sound equipment and acoustics (training available).
  • Good hearing and attention to detail.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly.

Backstage Crew

Role Description: Backstage crew members are the unsung heroes who ensure that everything behind the scenes runs like clockwork. From managing props to moving sets, your work will be vital to the production’s success.

Responsibilities:

  • Organizing and managing props and set pieces.
  • Assisting with quick changes and helping actors with costumes.
  • Ensuring a smooth flow of the production from backstage.

Skills Needed:

  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Team player with good communication skills.

Costumes

Role Description: The costume crew is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and management of all costumes used in the production. This role is perfect for those with a flair for fashion and creativity.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the design and sewing of costumes.
  • Organizing costume fittings for actors.
  • Managing costume changes during performances.

Skills Needed:

  • Basic sewing and garment construction skills (training can be provided).
  • Creativity and an eye for detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Set Building

Role Description: Set builders bring the physical world of the play to life. You’ll work on constructing, painting, and assembling the sets that form the backdrop of the production.

Responsibilities:

  • Building and painting set pieces according to the designer’s plans.
  • Assisting with the assembly and disassembly of sets.
  • Ensuring all set pieces are safe and functional.

Skills Needed:

  • Basic carpentry and painting skills (training provided).
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with power tools safely.

Front of House

Role Description: The front of house team is the face of our theatre, ensuring that every patron has a wonderful experience from the moment they arrive. This is a great role for those who love interacting with people.

Responsibilities:

  • Greeting patrons and helping them find their seats.
  • Managing concessions.
  • Assisting with crowd control and answering any questions patrons may have.

Skills Needed:

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Friendly and approachable demeanor.
